New Year New Start

Hi and Happy New Year from The Crooked Cottage. I know it's been a while since I was last here, (I'll be honest,  I wasn't really sure I would be any good at blogging!!). However, i awoke this morning and suddenly felt inspired to try again. So here I am!!
Just to finish off from my previous blog (from way back in July!!!) here's the finished picture of the corporate cake I was making.
Looks good doesn't it?? I was very please with the final product, although there were a few stressful moments along the way!!! Still it ended well and the customer was delighted!!

Since then, the only other commission I've had is for my daughters engagement. She got engaged in August and had a party in September. She had an American Diner themed party and so I made the cake as a giant tub of popcorn set in a drive-in movie, complete with a Pink Cadillac!!
That was fun to make, probably because it was personal. ;-)

So, anyway, the reason for my absence is because last July we (my lovely hubby and me!!) were given the opportunity to move to Cornwall. Now this has been a dream for us for over 10 years now. It's somewhere we love to be and we decided a long time ago that when the time was right we would move there. So last July that time came, and despite my initial excitement I threw my whole life into a state of panic as I suddenly realised the implications of the adventure I was about to embark on!! Being 52 years old and starting out on such a big adventure was pretty daunting for me!! Oh, I know you're never too old to have an adventure, but this for me is huge!!! But I also know it's gonna be good!! Life-changing, in a good way!!!
So, the New Year is here and I'm back in the zone and ready to embark!!! I figured this year I would keep blogging as I way of recording my adventure and sharing it with you. This is the real start of my adventure. My house is up for sale, I'm ready to start packing and I promise to stay in touch with you this year!!
In the meantime, I have my first cake order for this year - my first wedding cake, for a very dear friend. I shall be posting on that later on next month.

Bye for now,

Love, Debby  ;-)

Corporate Cake

The challenge -
 - a Corporate Cake for a company that provides commercial cleaning services. It's their 40th anniverary
I'm quite excited bout this one (who am I kidding, I'm excited about every cake I make!! Can't help myself!) I'm also a little nervous as this is my first Corporate Cake.

I've got myself armed with new piping nozzles for writing icing - another challenge - I'll let you know how that goes as the week moves on!!! Might need to get practising.

The plan is to make a large square cake with a tiled effect for the floor and then to make large vacuum cleaner out of cake!! Oh yes!!

Check back next week for the final photos.

See you soon,
Debby

18th birthday cake

The Quest - create an 18th birthday cake - pink, for a girl, with a scattering of cute little bears, and an abundance of flowers and girly stuff!
No problem - I love cute girly stuff!!
So, let the magic begin...
The Plan - bake the cake  - numbers 1 and 8 were the order of the day, and pink icing.
The Adventure - once the cake is made and iced, here comes the fun! Making characters and flowers and turning it all into an edible masterpiece!!

And here it is !!!!
